Overall Comment:
This course completely changes in difficulty depending on the lecturer. In my year (semester 2 2014) it was really quite easy because the semester before had seen a fail rate of over 70%. They overshot it and made it super easy for all of us the next semester and most people got a 7. It’s worth looking at who the lecturer is – from what I’ve heard Jeff Klein is very difficult and I had Simon Grant who was amazing and gave very, very easy exams. This course is really just basic maths though, simple economics and the tutorials are really helpful (depending on your tutor). When I did the course, they gave out participation marks simply for turning up to the tutorials and signing on. They said they wouldn’t give you the mark for attendance if you didn’t complete the weekly tutorial problems or contribute in class which was actually kinda false. If you asked one question and had a ‘go’ at each tutorial problem before the tute then you would get the mark (no matter how lackluster or bad your attempt was to do either of these things, however this does depend on your tutor).
